Do you know how the amphitheater came to be? The Stockbridge Baptist Church at the corner of North Lee St. gave them 3 houses. I don’t know whether the houses were bought with church money or not. But it is a matter of record 110, 112 & 114 North Lee St. were donated to the city by the church. They’ve been torn down and are empty parking lots now, 99% of the year, and always will be.
So, who wants an empty parking lot? Not me, nor you. The people who built it wanted it there. Not the city or your favorite councilperson. That parking lot is there because Strickland, Welch & Eagle Excavation wanted to get paid. We all know now, the results of donating that land are in our tax bills now. That donation would ultimately lead to 2024 & 2025’s unprecedented $32,900,000 dollar budget amendments.

This is what you can expect from the “donation” from the PResbyterian Church for the recreation center. Another giant boondoggle. TSW is back to “design” it. Soon, Jeff Grant will be back with those green tree harvesters as you just saw at Spivey Lake. Then Eagle Excavation will come and push dirt back and forth. Then you get another $500 added to your Stockbridge tax bill. And now you don’t have to worry why Stockbridge let that barrier be cut down.
Spivey friends. The man that cut your barrier down gave the city a police station. Your barrier is why Senator Strickland, Esq. championed $300 million in timber tax credits. If you’re holding your breath for justice, don’t. This is how Henry County works. At the whims of a very few connected people. If I was you I’d plant Arborvitae, Arizona Sapphire and Leyland Cypress. Don’t plant a straight line of the same thing or in 15-20 years a disease will get the whole row. Good luck.
