[0:17:54, 0:17:56]: Yes, sir. We'll do. [0:17:56, 0:18:00]: Thank you, sir. You can just email it to me. I appreciate any update. [0:18:00, 0:18:02]: Updated material that you have. [0:18:02, 0:18:03]: All right. [0:18:03, 0:18:04]: Thank you. [0:18:05, 0:18:07]: And uh thank you, Madam Chair. [0:18:07, 0:18:09]: Yes, sir. No problem. [0:18:15, 0:18:15]: Okay. [0:18:16, 0:18:19]: And now I will go into um [0:18:19, 0:18:22]: Old business with regard to my report. [0:18:22, 0:18:27]: Um and that's a good segue. We were talking about the work plan um committees. [0:18:27, 0:18:30]: As um mister Peterson mentioned. [0:18:31, 0:18:33]: The downtown business recruitment and retention meeting. [0:18:34, 0:18:35]: Uh committee has met. [0:18:36, 0:18:39]: And the downtown tourism product development um [0:18:40, 0:18:41]: committee has met. [0:18:42, 0:18:48]: The two committees that have not yet met are the downtown connectivity and design and downtown beautification. [0:18:48, 0:18:50]: And activation meetings. [0:18:50, 0:18:55]: Um those meetings had to be postponed um due to some scheduling conflicts that [0:18:56, 0:18:58]: I had um it's been a really [0:18:58, 0:18:59]: Really busy. [0:19:00, 0:19:05]: Um, end of the month for Lisa and myself and beginning of this month. [0:19:05, 0:19:08]: So I do apologize for um [0:19:08, 0:19:10]: having to move those meetings off. [0:19:10, 0:19:12]: Um to next month, but [0:19:12, 0:19:19]: Please um write these dates down for the downtown connectivity and design meeting is gonna be Tuesday. [0:19:19, 0:19:20]: November the second. [0:19:21, 0:19:23]: That's the first Tuesday of the month. [0:19:23, 0:19:25]: А сик п. [0:19:25, 0:19:31]: And then the downtown beautification and activation committee will be Wednesday. [0:19:31, 0:19:35]: November the tenth, which is the second Tuesday of the month. [0:19:35, 0:19:39]: Both meetings will be at six PM and I will send out [0:19:39, 0:19:40]: The um [0:19:41, 0:19:44]: Zoom information for you all to log in. [0:19:44, 0:19:47]: on those particular meetings if those are your committees. [0:19:47, 0:19:49]: So again, um [0:19:49, 0:19:51]: А тэн юофо є флесибилі. [0:19:51, 0:19:53]: An understanding with regard to [0:19:54, 0:19:57]: Самодіс метин час да окр. [0:19:58, 0:19:59]: Over the last month. [0:20:01, 0:20:02]: You see my [0:20:02, 0:20:13]: Yes, ma'am. Sorry to interrupt. Have a quick question regarding um the downtown beautification activate activation committee. Is it Wednesday the 10th or is it [0:20:13, 0:20:26]: Tuesday the ninth. It's gonna be Wednesday the tenth. I'm so I'm glad you brought that up and I had it highlighted here. That particular meeting is gonna be on Wednesday because again, I'm going to be I have another scheduling cover. I'm gonna be out of town. [0:20:27, 0:20:32]: Um on that Tuesday. So it'll be just for next month. It'll be on a Wednesday. [0:20:32, 0:20:39]: Um November the tenth and then it'll go back to the Tuesdays for the regular monthly meeting. Thank you for pointing that out. [0:20:40, 0:20:41]: Okay, thank you for clarifying. [0:20:42, 0:20:43]: Not Kira. [0:20:44, 0:20:45]: Yasmea. [0:20:45, 0:20:47]: What was the first um [0:20:48, 0:20:51]: Board meeting you you said on November the second it [0:20:51, 0:20:55]: That's the Downtown Connectivity and Design Committee meeting. [0:20:56, 0:20:56]: Okay. [0:20:57, 0:20:58]: Okay. [0:20:58, 0:21:03]: Downtown beautification and activation are on that Wednesday, November 10th. [0:21:04, 0:21:07]: Thank you. And both will meet at six PM. You're welcome. [0:21:08, 0:21:10]: Okay, anyone else? [0:21:11, 0:21:11]: All right. [0:21:13, 0:21:16]: So that concludes the um old business that I had. [0:21:16, 0:21:20]: uh with regard to um new business [0:21:20, 0:21:22]: We have received um two. [0:21:23, 0:21:26]: Um request one is for [0:21:26, 0:21:27]: Um [0:21:29, 0:21:29]: They [0:21:30, 0:21:33]: Sigma gamma rose aurority has [0:21:33, 0:21:35]: is interested in sponsoring [0:21:36, 0:21:37]: Um a little free library. [0:21:38, 0:21:39]: Um [0:21:39, 0:21:46]: I have pitched the little free library that is planned for the dog park location in Clark Park. [0:21:47, 0:21:53]: Um, they have stated that they are interested in being a part of the program and [0:21:53, 0:21:55]: Would like to um [0:21:56, 0:21:57]: Come on board with that. [0:21:58, 0:22:00]: And so I wanted to present that to. [0:22:01, 0:22:02]: Our um membership. [0:22:03, 0:22:04]: To [0:22:04, 0:22:07]: See if that was something that you all would be in favor of. [0:22:08, 0:22:10]: Um basically [0:22:10, 0:22:11]: The [0:22:11, 0:22:17]: Um c they would cover the cost of creating the um box, all of the materials needed. [0:22:17, 0:22:20]: For creation of the box, and then they would. [0:22:21, 0:22:23]: put in the first um [0:22:24, 0:22:28]: supply of books for that particular location. [0:22:32, 0:22:36]: So I need to know from you all if that is a um [0:22:36, 0:22:39]: partnership that you all are interested in. [0:22:39, 0:22:41]: um entertaining. [0:22:41, 0:22:44]: Um madam director, this is uh [0:22:44, 0:22:47]: Billy Hopkins, I think this is a great partnership. [0:22:47, 0:22:48]: With um [0:22:49, 0:22:56]: City McGovern Raw, hopefully in the future we'll get all the divine nine a part of this initiative. So I think it's a great partnership. [0:22:57, 0:22:58]: Okay. [0:22:59, 0:23:02]: So is that a motion to move forward with that? [0:23:04, 0:23:05]: Uh I will move. [0:23:06, 0:23:12]: I make the motion. Uh I move that we partner with the Senate McGamba Rose to support a free little library at Clark Park. [0:23:14, 0:23:16]: At the cost of at the cost. [0:23:16, 0:23:17]: Oh, Simon Gambah Red. [0:23:17, 0:23:18]: Okay. [0:23:18, 0:23:21]: I second. Councilman Thomas, I second. [0:23:22, 0:23:22]: Right. [0:23:23, 0:23:30]: I would like to add just to discussion that um this is a great idea and when we look back to our mission. [0:23:30, 0:23:39]: Um prior to our meeting, I know there there was a little discussion that I kind of got to tell in of that we wanted to ensure that everything we do, we don't forget our mission. [0:23:39, 0:23:44]: That cultivating artistic expression is checked off with this particular um endeavor. [0:23:44, 0:23:47]: Um uh nurturing our community spirit. [0:23:47, 0:23:48]: Um [0:23:48, 0:23:49]: And [0:23:50, 0:24:03]: indirectly, it could bring in some economic vitality if someone is in that area and then they pop over to our downtown area. So just didn't want us to lose um sight of our mission when we make decisions. Thank you. [0:24:03, 0:24:04]: Okay. [0:24:05, 0:24:05]: Thank you. [0:24:08, 0:24:11]: Okay. You'll have to call for the vote. [0:24:12, 0:24:14]: Yes, is there any additional discussion? [0:24:16, 0:24:22]: Okay, hearing none, we'd like um you when you hear your name to please acknowledge if you're for this um [0:24:23, 0:24:26]: move motion to carry. Um Miss Camacho. [0:24:26, 0:24:27]: Yes. [0:24:27, 0:24:29]: Thank you, Miss Finley. [0:24:30, 0:24:32]: Yes, thank you. [0:24:32, 0:24:33]: Mr. Firch. [0:24:34, 0:24:34]: Yes. [0:24:35, 0:24:36]: Thank you, Miss Gibson. [0:24:37, 0:24:38]: Yes. [0:24:38, 0:24:38]: Thank you. [0:24:40, 0:24:41]: Mr. Hopkins. [0:24:41, 0:24:42]: Yes. [0:24:42, 0:24:43]: Thank you, Mr. Horton. [0:24:46, 0:24:47]: Yes. [0:24:47, 0:24:49]: Thank you, Miss Jones. [0:24:50, 0:24:50]: Yes. [0:24:52, 0:24:55]: Thank you. Miss Potts is myself, yes. Miss Reed? [0:24:55, 0:24:56]: Yes. [0:24:56, 0:24:58]: Thank you, Mr. Thomas. [0:24:59, 0:25:00]: Yes. [0:25:00, 0:25:01]: Thank you. [0:25:01, 0:25:04]: Um it has been properly moved and [0:25:04, 0:25:08]: And it carries and second it. Thank you. And I return it back to Ms. Brux. [0:25:09, 0:25:14]: Okay, thank you very much. Um the other item that we have um [0:25:15, 0:25:16]: Із um [0:25:18, 0:25:23]: A partnership request with the Stockbridge Um Youth Council. [0:25:24, 0:25:27]: Um, they are looking to host [0:25:27, 0:25:30]: A drive in movie? [0:25:31, 0:25:32]: Um they are [0:25:33, 0:25:37]: Planning for that to be a holiday drive in movie in the [0:25:37, 0:25:38]: Um [0:25:38, 0:25:41]: I guess tentative date of they have to get [0:25:41, 0:25:42]: Permission from [0:25:43, 0:25:44]: The city council [0:25:44, 0:25:45]: Would be [0:25:46, 0:25:49]: Um December the eighteenth, I think it is. [0:25:49, 0:25:51]: Yes, December eighteenth. [0:25:51, 0:25:56]: And they are asking for the Main Street ev um program. [0:25:56, 0:26:00]: To partner with them in helping to bring [0:26:00, 0:26:02]: The movie um [0:26:03, 0:26:04]: to the community. [0:26:04, 0:26:11]: Um this would be assistance with the actual cost of the um [0:26:12, 0:26:13]: Movie. [0:26:13, 0:26:18]: They have not selected the movie yet, so that will definitely factor in the cost. [0:26:19, 0:26:20]: And [0:26:20, 0:26:21]: If it's in [0:26:21, 0:26:26]: That means if it's for the licensing, the cost is basically the licensing and [0:26:26, 0:26:29]: having the projection company come and [0:26:29, 0:26:31]: Um, deliver the movie. [0:26:32, 0:26:32]: That [0:26:33, 0:26:36]: will depend on the type of movie that they select. [0:26:36, 0:26:45]: That means, for example, if it is a Disney movie, the cost will be much more than possibly a Pixar movie or a [0:26:45, 0:26:46]: A Dreamworks movie. [0:26:47, 0:26:48]: So [0:26:48, 0:26:53]: I don't have a whole lot of information. This was just brought to me a few days ago. [0:26:55, 0:27:00]: So I don't know if you all are ready to make a decision with regard to that. [0:27:00, 0:27:07]: But from what I understand, they are um needing some assistance with um paying for the movie. [0:27:07, 0:27:09]: They have not um [0:27:09, 0:27:13]: Told me whether or not they would need us to. [0:27:13, 0:27:17]: assist as we have with our movies being on site. [0:27:18, 0:27:19]: Um [0:27:19, 0:27:24]: In the COVID situation, I don't think that they would be doing the popcorn as we usually do. [0:27:24, 0:27:26]: With our movies. [0:27:26, 0:27:30]: Um, but I don't have a whole lot of detail, but the date is the eighteenth. [0:27:31, 0:27:36]: And they are interested in us helping them at least pay for bringing the movie to the com [0:27:36, 0:27:37]: to the community. [0:27:38, 0:27:42]: So is there any discussion or interest in? [0:27:42, 0:27:43]: Um [0:27:43, 0:27:46]: This particular partnership with the Stockbridge Youth. [0:27:46, 0:27:47]: Um [0:27:47, 0:27:48]: Council. [0:27:49, 0:27:55]: Uh madam director, I have a question. Yes, sir. I think I think this is a good initiative. [0:27:55, 0:28:03]: Uh to bring footprints back down to downtown. Anytime we get an opportunity to bring folks to our downtown area, I think it's an opportunity for us to. [0:28:03, 0:28:04]: Um [0:28:04, 0:28:12]: use that that that community connection to the community. So uh but but I have a question. Uh yes sir previous years [0:28:13, 0:28:22]: uh prior to the amphitheater, we normally use the lawn outside of City Hall, but where would this be located now since the amphitheater is up? Is it is gonna be that location, what location, how are they referring to? [0:28:22, 0:28:38]: They are looking at um different location. My recommendation to them was to use the parking lot that has been created by the amphitheater. Um it has numerous spaces and it's on an um incline. So you know they might be able to put [0:28:39, 0:28:44]: movie at the top of the um parking lot and people would be able to park and be able to see. [0:28:44, 0:28:46]: Um the [0:28:46, 0:28:47]: The screen. [0:28:47, 0:28:49]: Фромер карсь. [0:28:49, 0:28:50]: Um [0:28:51, 0:28:58]: Again, they have not made that decision yet, but that was my recommendation since it's a drive in that they are proposing. [0:29:00, 0:29:10]: So it is it is it fair to say that uh prior to them getting approval by the city council for this this this this um [0:29:10, 0:29:22]: the a permit to have the the collaboration go ahead on approve the collaboration so they'll have some stake in the game when they do try to uh get this permit to have this moving. [0:29:24, 0:29:36]: Um is your question uh I wasn't understanding your question. I'm sorry. My question is, is it that they go ahead we go ahead on approval the collaboration with them, the partnership with them prior to them getting the permit? [0:29:36, 0:29:39]: So they know that the main street board is supportive of what they're trying. [0:29:39, 0:29:42]: to accomplish and since they're asking us to be a part of. [0:29:43, 0:29:44]: Okay. [0:29:44, 0:29:55]: Um yes, we could move forward with the recommendation um or approving that we will um work with them in some way, um, which would be yet to be determined. I think that they're asking for [0:29:56, 0:30:02]: uh monetary support and this would be something that we would be able to do through our promotions budget. [0:30:03, 0:30:09]: Um and as you see, we have barely touched that due to the um COVID situation. So we do have [0:30:09, 0:30:12]: Ample funding to be able to [0:30:12, 0:30:14]: Um, assist with that. [0:30:14, 0:30:21]: Um, I don't know if they are asking for assistance on the ground, like feet on the ground with regard to [0:30:21, 0:30:26]: helping um deliver the event like helping people park or [0:30:27, 0:30:30]: distributing refreshments or anything like that. [0:30:30, 0:30:34]: Um that has not been um solidified yet. [0:30:35, 0:30:38]: Have they identified the total amount that they're asking? [0:30:39, 0:30:41]: Um that again is [0:30:41, 0:30:46]: something that would have to be determined by the movie that they select. [0:30:46, 0:30:52]: Um, I had to explain that to them um when they came to me with questions regarding [0:30:52, 0:30:53]: The movie that [0:30:53, 0:30:57]: their cost will be determined by the the movie that they select. [0:30:57, 0:31:02]: again, if they choose a very popular Disney movie, it's gonna cost more. [0:31:02, 0:31:03]: than a [0:31:04, 0:31:05]: Um [0:31:05, 0:31:08]: Ласт єр'з Писар муві, фезму. [0:31:08, 0:31:12]: Um it'll be a family friendly movie, so um [0:31:12, 0:31:14]: Those are usually um priced. [0:31:15, 0:31:15]: Um [0:31:16, 0:31:16]: And uh [0:31:16, 0:31:18]: Anywhere from the [0:31:19, 0:31:20]: five hundred to [0:31:20, 0:31:25]: Um fifteen hundred dollar range based on our experience with hosting the movies. [0:31:25, 0:31:31]: So we could approve an amount up to a certain point if that is what you would like to do. [0:31:34, 0:31:36]: Thank you, ma'am, Madam Director. [0:31:37, 0:31:41]: A Nika? Yes. Yes, Kira. So um [0:31:41, 0:31:44]: Because things are not um [0:31:44, 0:31:52]: Defined just yet. Um, could we give them a soft commitment? Um, me and another part of my question is um [0:31:53, 0:32:06]: Will they be meeting with each other and the um the council before our November 12th meeting, where by then they can have their details and would that allow enough time? [0:32:06, 0:32:22]: to get things in place if we um have our details, we know our numbers, we know the location, we know the equity they want from us before the actual event on the 18th. So it kind of feels like if we feel like we want to support it, but without enough details, it's kind of hard to [0:32:23, 0:32:26]: give a commitment, it's maybe what others are thinking. [0:32:26, 0:32:32]: Right. And I understand that. I think that they have a meeting um next week. [0:32:33, 0:32:38]: Um, so they would I can pose, you know, the different questions to them like we've been discussing here. [0:32:39, 0:32:39]: Um [0:32:40, 0:32:42]: you know, the level of commitment, the [0:32:42, 0:32:45]: um level of the monetary support. [0:32:45, 0:32:46]: And um [0:32:47, 0:32:51]: Whether or not they would need us to work the event. [0:32:51, 0:32:52]: Um with them. [0:32:53, 0:32:56]: And they pose those questions to their board. [0:32:57, 0:33:01]: Um, because this was the first time that they're attempting to do this type of activity. [0:33:02, 0:33:04]: I don't think that they realized um [0:33:04, 0:33:05]: Um [0:33:06, 0:33:08]: How much logistics needs to go into it? [0:33:09, 0:33:10]: So um [0:33:11, 0:33:16]: I think it would be best as you and um Mr. Hopkins have stated that we [0:33:17, 0:33:18]: Um [0:33:18, 0:33:23]: move forward with saying that we would like to support them. [0:33:23, 0:33:24]: And [0:33:24, 0:33:27]: With a soft commitment and then um [0:33:27, 0:33:30]: get more details and then make that final decision. [0:33:31, 0:33:33]: Um, at our by our next meeting. [0:33:35, 0:33:38]: Thank you. And this is something that if it is something that [0:33:39, 0:33:41]: You know, they urgently need a decision on. [0:33:42, 0:33:44]: I can send out um [0:33:44, 0:33:45]: A [0:33:45, 0:33:52]: um email to everyone asking for um support or in well whatever your vote would be. [0:33:52, 0:33:55]: With regard to the sport, once I have more details. [0:33:58, 0:34:01]: If that's something that you all would entertain. [0:34:02, 0:34:04]: Yeah, I would I would like that. [0:34:05, 0:34:09]: That looks that sounds a lot intr a lot more better than um [0:34:09, 0:34:20]: you know, just going into it because uh some of the questions that we have about the situation kind of opens it up to is it gonna be our event that they are [0:34:20, 0:34:40]: um participating with or is it going to be their event that we're going to help support? So I think answering a lot of those questions will really help our will help our position in that. So I agree with that soft commitment because I'm, you know, I'm all for it. But what that looks like, just to kind of, you know, break that down, I think that would help us out on making a more educated [0:34:40, 0:34:41]: Any decision. [0:34:42, 0:34:43]: Okay. [0:34:43, 0:34:53]: And um I do agree with that because you, um Mr. Hopkins, Ms. Potts, and several others on this call know how much it takes to put that event on. [0:34:53, 0:34:59]: when it's a physical uh when it's you know a regular event. So bringing in the cars and the driving part. [0:35:00, 0:35:05]: I think takes it to a whole nother level that um they may not have um [0:35:06, 0:35:11]: thought about all the way through. So we need to get a few more details with regard to that. [0:35:14, 0:35:17]: Okay, so what is you all's pleasure at this time? [0:35:18, 0:35:20]: I would need a motion and a um [0:35:21, 0:35:22]: And marching orders. [0:35:26, 0:35:29]: Okay, I'm calling for a motion um from [0:35:30, 0:35:33]: the board for uh what we would like to present. [0:35:35, 0:35:36]: At this time. [0:35:38, 0:35:40]: Well, I motion for the soft commitment. [0:35:41, 0:35:41]: Um [0:35:42, 0:35:49]: In lieu of getting more additional information after the meeting to answer some more questions and then for us to [0:35:49, 0:35:50]: Um [0:35:50, 0:35:51]: Take another vote. [0:35:52, 0:35:53]: Um at our next meeting. [0:35:54, 0:35:55]: Okay. [0:35:56, 0:35:58]: I second it, um, Madam Chair. [0:35:59, 0:36:05]: Thank you. Thank you, gentlemen, for um moving improperly seconding the um [0:36:06, 0:36:20]: commitment of uh well decision to make a soft commitment to this venture. Okay, we will move on with a vote. If you are in favor, please acknowledge with a yes. If you oppose, please state no. Ms. Camacho. [0:36:20, 0:36:21]: Yes. [0:36:21, 0:36:22]: Thank you. [0:36:23, 0:36:23]: Miss Finley. [0:36:24, 0:36:25]: Yes. [0:36:25, 0:36:27]: Thank you. Liz the birch. [0:36:29, 0:36:30]: Yes. [0:36:30, 0:36:32]: Thank you, Miss Gibson. [0:36:33, 0:36:33]: Yes. [0:36:34, 0:36:36]: Thank you, Mr. Hopkins. [0:36:36, 0:36:36]: Yes. [0:36:37, 0:36:38]: Thank you, Mr. Horton. [0:36:41, 0:36:42]: Yes. [0:36:42, 0:36:43]: Thank you, Miss Jones. [0:36:48, 0:36:49]: Miss Jones? [0:36:51, 0:36:53]: Maybe need it. Let's see. [0:36:54, 0:36:57]: I don't see her on the screen anymore. [0:36:58, 0:36:59]: Um okay. [0:36:59, 0:37:04]: She I guess we'll put her as an abstention for this particular one. [0:37:04, 0:37:06]: Yes, we'll do. [0:37:06, 0:37:08]: Potts, yes. Miss Reed? [0:37:09, 0:37:11]: Yes. Thank you. [0:37:11, 0:37:13]: Uh, and Mr. Thomas. [0:37:14, 0:37:14]: Yes. [0:37:15, 0:37:15]: Thank you, sir. [0:37:16, 0:37:18]: It has been properly moved and seconded. [0:37:18, 0:37:19]: Thank you. [0:37:20, 0:37:21]: Back to you, Miss Brights. [0:37:22, 0:37:27]: Okay. Um now I'd just like to provide you all with a few updates with regard to [0:37:28, 0:37:36]: Um the projects that we have on board. Um, as you all know, the um city's amphitheater. [0:37:37, 0:37:41]: Opened, uh we hosted a grand opening um concert. [0:37:41, 0:37:45]: On the twenty fifth, which was a huge success. The [0:37:45, 0:37:46]: Um [0:37:46, 0:37:48]: Space was sold out and [0:37:49, 0:37:53]: We had very swift ticket sales, so I was I'm very excited to report. [0:37:54, 0:37:55]: That it was a great event. [0:37:56, 0:38:02]: We have another concert coming up on October twenty-third that will be featuring um the artists. [0:38:02, 0:38:06]: Shaka Khan and um Freddie Jackson. [0:38:06, 0:38:08]: And tickets are on sale now. [0:38:09, 0:38:09]: Um [0:38:10, 0:38:14]: One hundred fourteen MLK Senior Heritage Trail, our white box project. [0:38:15, 0:38:19]: Um, I think I told you all that the contractor bid went out on September eighth. [0:38:20, 0:38:21]: And there was a contract. [0:38:22, 0:38:26]: Контрактор сайте візит хостел о Октобер Фіфт форс. [0:38:27, 0:38:30]: Who are bidding on that project to come and actually see the site. [0:38:31, 0:38:32]: And look at um [0:38:33, 0:38:37]: And make their own notes and observations about the work that needs to be completed. [0:38:38, 0:38:41]: So that bid should be closing soon and we'll um [0:38:41, 0:38:45]: Keep you all updated on contractor selection and [0:38:45, 0:38:47]: When that project will start to um [0:38:48, 0:38:51]: move forward as far as construction is concerned. [0:38:52, 0:38:59]: Um, the Ted Strickland Strickland building is also in the bid process. We did host a site visit. [0:38:59, 0:39:00]: And um [0:39:01, 0:39:05]: Had quite a few contractors come to that particular site visit. [0:39:05, 0:39:05]: Um [0:39:06, 0:39:10]: So we're looking forward to that be it closing and being able to select a contractor. [0:39:11, 0:39:13]: for that particular site as well. [0:39:15, 0:39:22]: The alleyway project. Main Street hosted an alleyway um projection uh project presentation. [0:39:22, 0:39:27]: On September twenty seventh, thank you to all of you who um from the board attended. [0:39:28, 0:39:33]: uh representing the board and also um the business owners Linda and Greg who attended. [0:39:33, 0:39:37]: Um, business and property owners that is to attended the meeting as well. [0:39:37, 0:39:42]: I think that the um project overall was well received. There were some [0:39:43, 0:39:45]: Questions with regard to the design? [0:39:46, 0:39:46]: Um [0:39:47, 0:39:52]: concerns about um how some of the landscaping was created and [0:39:52, 0:39:54]: Also the plan for the [0:39:55, 0:39:55]: Um [0:39:56, 0:39:58]: Лат тобі гравел. [0:39:58, 0:40:01]: Um the if you go think about the [0:40:02, 0:40:07]: Um, area that's behind the Martin Luther King Senior Heritage Trail. [0:40:07, 0:40:08]: Um [0:40:08, 0:40:13]: businesses and between the Berk the Martin Luther King Senior Here Heritage Trail and Burke Street. [0:40:14, 0:40:17]: The property that the city owns back there where the alleyway project is um [0:40:18, 0:40:20]: Scheduled to take place. [0:40:20, 0:40:24]: There is currently just a grassy area and we wanted to [0:40:24, 0:40:25]: Um [0:40:25, 0:40:31]: You make that a uh graveled in um temporary parking lot and then also [0:40:31, 0:40:34]: Where there is asphalt that needs to be removed. [0:40:34, 0:40:40]: remove that asphalt and make that a a gravelled in um parking space. [0:40:40, 0:40:45]: um temporary so that when a developer is interested in that particular location. [0:40:46, 0:40:48]: they would be able to um [0:40:48, 0:40:49]: Come in. [0:40:50, 0:40:56]: And start their work, I guess a little easier than having to remove some asphalt. But there have been some concerns about that particular [0:40:57, 0:40:57]: Plan. [0:40:58, 0:40:58]: Um [0:40:59, 0:41:00]: direction. [0:41:00, 0:41:07]: So we are going to be meeting with all of the business owners. We have started conversations with [0:41:07, 0:41:08]: Um [0:41:08, 0:41:18]: s I said business owner, business and property only, mainly property owners, to talk with them about and get feedback from them on what their thoughts are about the plan. [0:41:19, 0:41:24]: And um try to move forward from there. But we're trying to get buy in from every property owner. [0:41:25, 0:41:30]: So that we can move this project forward and ever try to get as many people. [0:41:30, 0:41:32]: Um on board with it as possible. [0:41:33, 0:41:37]: Um, Greg and Linda, did you all have any comments with regard to? [0:41:38, 0:41:42]: That um plan and the meeting um that we hosted. [0:41:42, 0:41:44]: With regard to that, this was the first time that we were. [0:41:45, 0:41:46]: Actually bringing the project. [0:41:46, 0:41:48]: To the downtown property owners. [0:41:49, 0:41:50]: For their initial [0:41:51, 0:41:53]: Um comments and observations. [0:41:56, 0:41:57]: Linda or Greg. [0:41:59, 0:41:59]: Linda. [0:42:00, 0:42:05]: Uh yes, I I feel like it should be paved and not graveled. [0:42:06, 0:42:12]: It's just so many kids back there and they're always throwing rocks and things of that nature. [0:42:13, 0:42:33]: I have lots of rocks that were on the top of my building due to them just just I guess rocking the building. I'm not sure. And I'm not the only one that has a lot of that type of debris on top of their their buildings. I just think to make things look better and you know. [0:42:33, 0:42:38]: know, go from when we did our first RSVP, we were going to pave it. [0:42:39, 0:42:48]: It may cost whoever more to pave it, but I just think, you know, with the green space and paving it, it will look better than just having the gravel there. [0:42:48, 0:42:49]: Um [0:42:49, 0:42:51]: I really would like to see gravel there. [0:42:51, 0:42:58]: Well pavement pavement. I will s now you know that the alleyway will be paved. It's just the um [0:42:59, 0:43:00]: parking area that would [0:43:01, 0:43:03]: We had proposed to put gravel there. [0:43:03, 0:43:09]: So definitely there will be pavers along the alleyway. I just want to make sure that everybody understands that. [0:43:09, 0:43:10]: Okay. [0:43:10, 0:43:12]: Um Greg, did you have any? [0:43:12, 0:43:13]: Comments. [0:43:15, 0:43:22]: I'll I'll echo Linda's concern. I uh I've I've heard the logic for leaving the parking lot as gravel instead of being paved. [0:43:23, 0:43:32]: Uh and that main logic is really just to make it more attractive for developer. Um, I think it's reflective of the city's commitment to [0:43:33, 0:43:46]: design and beautification of downtown. And and that's part of uh I I want to make some a statement a little later during this meeting about things in general and that'll be part of it. But [0:43:46, 0:43:47]: That is reflective of [0:43:48, 0:43:52]: I I want to echo Linda's concern, and I know my neighbor Rod. [0:43:53, 0:43:56]: had the same concern about not paving that parking lot that [0:43:56, 0:43:59]: That it really needs to be paid. So [0:43:59, 0:44:00]: Okay. [0:44:01, 0:44:07]: All right. Well, thank you for um your comments. Did you all feel that the meeting went well? [0:44:10, 0:44:10]: Yeah. [0:44:14, 0:44:17]: Yes, I I I I'm glad we had the meeting. [0:44:19, 0:44:24]: I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm glad we did have the meeting. It brought out a lot of things and concerns. [0:44:25, 0:44:39]: And I do know that whatever we do here, it does reflect us as a board and as a city. Um, it reflects back to our statement also. So yes, it was a good meeting. Thank you. Okay. [0:44:39, 0:44:42]: Greg, you were kind of fading in and out. [0:44:43, 0:44:50]: Okay. Um I'm I'm also glad we had the meeting and it it was good seeing the property owners, so many of the property owners show up. [0:44:51, 0:44:57]: Um, but to be honest, I was a little disappointed in how the meeting went. I felt like the engineering group. [0:44:58, 0:44:58]: Um [0:44:59, 0:45:00]: While they are to present [0:45:01, 0:45:01]: The current [0:45:01, 0:45:07]: project plan weren't really prepared for any questions or concerns. Um [0:45:07, 0:45:18]: You know, even Rod immediately stating that he didn't like the idea of grasping against the back of his building basically shut the meeting down. Uh and I felt like the guys weren't prepared to [0:45:18, 0:45:38]: address issues or offer options or or to try to talk through and and continue moving the meeting forward. So I think we should kind of learn from that for future presentations in any development for downtown or that requires property owner or community participation. I think the meeting needs to be a little more [0:45:38, 0:45:41]: more prepared to deal with the group. So [0:45:42, 0:45:43]: Okay. [0:45:44, 0:45:46]: All right. Um Lisa. [0:45:47, 0:45:49]: Hey, good morning everybody. [0:45:50, 0:45:50]: Um [0:45:51, 0:45:56]: I I wanted to say I thought the meeting went well in spite of [0:45:56, 0:46:02]: The fact that it was not scripted and so it didn't go it didn't go down as a perfect conversation. [0:46:02, 0:46:05]: But I think that's good anyway. Um [0:46:06, 0:46:07]: This is [0:46:07, 0:46:09]: We've had meet and greets and invited [0:46:10, 0:46:12]: The downtown um business community. [0:46:13, 0:46:17]: openly to our different things. And this is the first time I've seen so many. [0:46:18, 0:46:22]: Come out and participate together. And I hope that this opens up. [0:46:22, 0:46:28]: our relationship with them so that we can continue to grow as a unit in the downtown. [0:46:29, 0:46:29]: Um [0:46:30, 0:46:32]: I agree with Greg that um [0:46:33, 0:46:37]: The conversation was a bit derailed and that was. [0:46:37, 0:46:43]: A lot of just different natural occurrences, you know, people's different opinions, people not necessarily [0:46:44, 0:46:49]: being prepared for the fact that these opinions would be different from what we presented. [0:46:50, 0:46:55]: But still there was a conversation that was organic. And I think we can just go from there. [0:46:56, 0:46:57]: Um [0:46:57, 0:46:58]: Yeah. [0:46:58, 0:47:02]: I'm just glad that we were able to get this much of it done and and [0:47:02, 0:47:05]: have a way to look forward to the future. [0:47:07, 0:47:07]: Okay. [0:47:08, 0:47:12]: Well, thank you very much all for that um commentary. I think that it went well. [0:47:13, 0:47:14]: Um as also [0:47:15, 0:47:18]: And I was glad to see so many people. [0:47:18, 0:47:22]: um willing to discuss and participate in the conversation. So [0:47:23, 0:47:23]: Um [0:47:24, 0:47:25]: It's [0:47:25, 0:47:30]: Going to change um some of our plans with regard to the design. I've already talked with [0:47:31, 0:47:32]: The um [0:47:32, 0:47:33]: engineering group about [0:47:34, 0:47:38]: Um making some changes to the design and when we talk to the individual. [0:47:39, 0:47:41]: Property owners uh will also be [0:47:42, 0:47:48]: incorporating um some of their comments as well, as well as these comments that we just heard today. [0:47:50, 0:47:50]: Okay. [0:47:51, 0:47:57]: Um, that's all that I had for um my report. I did want to just kind of [0:47:57, 0:47:58]: Um [0:47:58, 0:48:05]: throw it over to Lisa with regard to small business Saturday. We are um going to be um [0:48:06, 0:48:10]: Getting that off the ground here v very soon. [0:48:10, 0:48:12]: We're a little bit behind on our planning with that. [0:48:13, 0:48:14]: But um [0:48:14, 0:48:18]: Lisa has some ideas and we're going to be sending um a meeting. [0:48:18, 0:48:23]: um request to those who are interested in participating. I did want to ask [0:48:24, 0:48:27]: Um, if a lunch meeting is something that [0:48:27, 0:48:30]: uh people would be willing to entertain. [0:48:30, 0:48:33]: Um as opposed to an even meeting. [0:48:33, 0:48:34]: If that works for people. [0:48:39, 0:48:45]: I'm I'm sorry, Kira, are you asking if a a lunch meeting for the shop small um [0:48:45, 0:48:48]: Conversation would be better than an evening meeting? Yes. [0:48:49, 0:48:53]: I know that Greg, Linda, uh we had asked prayer and um [0:48:54, 0:48:58]: Vanessa to assist with those with that particular initiative. [0:48:58, 0:48:59]: Um [0:49:00, 0:49:05]: Is a lunch meeting something that you all would be able to do? That would be a a meeting around [0:49:05, 0:49:10]: Twelve o'clock. I know that you all are in your shops at that time or at work at that time. [0:49:10, 0:49:11]: But [0:49:11, 0:49:18]: Would a lunch meeting be amenable or is a six o'clock meeting um better suited for you all's schedules? [0:49:21, 0:49:24]: Preferably for me, a lunch meeting is better'cause I [0:49:25, 0:49:27]: work in the evening. Right. Okay. [0:49:28, 0:49:34]: It's according to what day and time that you want to have it. I know the time is twelve, but the day that you're having it. [0:49:35, 0:49:35]: Okay. [0:49:36, 0:49:39]: Your your shop is closed on Monday, correct? [0:49:39, 0:49:40]: Yes. [0:49:40, 0:49:43]: Okay. I know Greg is closed on Monday. [0:49:43, 0:49:44]: Um [0:49:44, 0:49:49]: Would Monday's a Monday lunch meeting work for um prayer and Vanessa? [0:49:51, 0:49:51]: Yes. [0:49:52, 0:49:55]: Yes, um a Monday lunch meeting would be fun. [0:49:55, 0:49:58]: Okay. And we'll definitely try to keep it to [0:49:58, 0:50:00]: Um under an hour. [0:50:01, 0:50:05]: uh with regard to that and um it'll be informal so if you want to [0:50:05, 0:50:07]: Eat while we're beating, that's fine as well. [0:50:08, 0:50:12]: Okay, Lisa. Um if you can note that, uh we'll try to get something on the schedule. [0:50:13, 0:50:14]: for this coming Monday. [0:50:15, 0:50:20]: Okay, and just another quick question to our um four merchants. [0:50:20, 0:50:25]: Would you be able to stay back on this call for a few minutes after we uh [0:50:25, 0:50:31]: and the advisory board meeting, um, just so that I can get some feedback and share a little bit more with you. [0:50:35, 0:50:39]: Greg said yes. Yes. Okay. Linda, how about you? Can you stay on a little longer? [0:50:40, 0:50:41]: Yeah. [0:50:42, 0:50:43]: You're muted. [0:50:47, 0:50:51]: Yes, I'll be driving, but I can stay on. Okay. [0:50:52, 0:50:56]: Prayer. Um, how about you? Can you stay on a little bit longer after this meeting? [0:50:59, 0:51:01]: She had to step away. Yeah, she [0:51:03, 0:51:04]: You're muted. [0:51:06, 0:51:14]: Yes, Nova and I will be able to stay a little house. Okay. Yes, okay, good. It won't be it won't be long since it's impromptu, okay. [0:51:15, 0:51:35]: That's fine. Yeah. She she she usually goes down for a nap. She she's been up since like um since 8:30. So she'll she'll be ready for a nap by 11, 11:30. Okay. So Rosio just um chatted that she has to leave at 10. Um, but she's also one of our merchants, and I would like to um reach out to her at another time. Hopefully she [0:51:35, 0:51:37]: She can make that Monday at noon meeting. [0:51:37, 0:51:39]: Thank you all. Um so [0:51:39, 0:51:40]: Here is um [0:51:41, 0:51:45]: What we've got going on for this year's Small Business Saturday. [0:51:46, 0:51:52]: I need to get together with Greg again. He and I have um done most of the brainstorming up till now. [0:51:52, 0:51:55]: And then um as Kira stated before. [0:51:55, 0:51:58]: All of September and October were. [0:51:59, 0:52:00]: Just [0:52:00, 0:52:05]: outrageous for us at the office. And so we're a bit behind. [0:52:06, 0:52:09]: But the idea was that um due to the pandemic. [0:52:10, 0:52:19]: Um, we did the virtual small business Saturday last year, which means we just encouraged folks to um shop online. We did um [0:52:19, 0:52:23]: We posted online videos of some of our small businesses. [0:52:23, 0:52:28]: And um just asked everyone to shop small as best they could. [0:52:28, 0:52:32]: So um we did not do a passport, but our passport. [0:52:33, 0:52:35]: In previous years was very popular. [0:52:35, 0:52:39]: So we wanted to kind of combine those things for this year and um [0:52:39, 0:52:45]: Create a passport, which means we've got to recruit the businesses that will be participating. [0:52:46, 0:52:58]: And we will try to create another batch of videos to add to the ones we that currently exist. Um, those were very, very popular online, and I think it helped introduce some of our businesses to. [0:52:58, 0:53:00]: People that were not aware of them before. [0:53:01, 0:53:01]: Um [0:53:02, 0:53:04]: But in addition to that, um [0:53:05, 0:53:06]: I'm drawing a blank here. [0:53:07, 0:53:11]: Um we Kira and I wanted to do a bit of a pop long. [0:53:12, 0:53:21]: So that it's not a selling pop-up. It's more like um we put up our blue umbrella, we go to a couple of different um [0:53:22, 0:53:23]: Well [0:53:23, 0:53:24]: Um [0:53:24, 0:53:26]: travelled um [0:53:27, 0:53:37]: Areas locations shopping locations where we think there are a lot of stores in place that um need a little highlight and where we can talk to a lot of passers by. [0:53:37, 0:53:41]: And ultimately, what we hope they do is not just shop on the [0:53:41, 0:53:43]: Saturday after Thanksgiving. [0:53:43, 0:53:46]: But instead we're going to ask them to shop. [0:53:46, 0:53:47]: throughout the month of November. [0:53:48, 0:53:50]: So they've got all month long. [0:53:50, 0:53:51]: To shop small. [0:53:52, 0:53:53]: Instead of asking them [0:53:54, 0:53:58]: Hey, do you think on that really busy holiday weekend when some of you are even out of town? [0:53:59, 0:54:01]: And some of our shops are not even open because it's not. [0:54:02, 0:54:04]: relevant to their business to be open. [0:54:04, 0:54:08]: Why don't you just participate with our local businesses? [0:54:09, 0:54:10]: throughout the month of November. [0:54:11, 0:54:11]: Um [0:54:12, 0:54:16]: And that's what we've got so far. Um, and I'd love to hear some feedback on that. [0:54:17, 0:54:20]: So we'll be hosting that meeting at twelve. [0:54:20, 0:54:35]: Um on Monday, I will send out the invitation to everyone. So if anyone else is interested in giving feedback and being a part of that particular effort, we will gladly welcome you all to help us with that. [0:54:36, 0:54:44]: Okay, thank you, Lisa. And the next item is the um DDA report. Um, Barber um is absent from our meeting today. She did tell me [0:54:45, 0:54:55]: that this is the um tax, I think deadline for the extended tax deadline or something. So she's got uh appointments all this morning. So she wasn't able to attend this morning. [0:54:55, 0:55:00]: Um so that brings us um to announcements and concerns. I'll throw it back to Anika. [0:55:04, 0:55:08]: All right, thank you so much. Um, Miss Braggs. Uh [0:55:11, 0:55:19]: Okay, great. Um, sorry about that. So um are there any announcements or concerns that we need to address during our meeting today? [0:55:23, 0:55:24]: Rayc has his hand up. [0:55:25, 0:55:25]: Yeah, madam. [0:55:26, 0:55:27]: Yes, sir. Madam Chair. [0:55:28, 0:55:31]: Yes, Mr. Hormuz. I I I just want to address [0:55:31, 0:55:51]: Thank you. I I just want to address a few things to the advisory board in general, just mainly as food for thought, but really it's going to be an expression of where I am as a member of the board, um having uh served on for over three years now. Um and [0:55:51, 0:55:55]: where we where I feel like we are. [0:55:58, 0:56:17]: I greatly respect and appreciate all the members of this board who dedicate their who volunteer their time and their efforts in trying to move uh our vision of of Main Street and the Main Street program forward in Stockbridge. Um and I know there's great things on the horizon, things that it appears things are beginning to [0:56:18, 0:56:21]: to fall in place and in jail um [0:56:21, 0:56:25]: And so that's that's exciting, but I think we need to [0:56:26, 0:56:30]: In order to walk into that horizon properly. [0:56:30, 0:56:32]: We need to take an assessment of [0:56:33, 0:56:34]: Where we are, um [0:56:35, 0:56:47]: And where Main Street is currently. Um and uh I have several concerns. Um uh one of them was kind of echoed in in Linda's expression of uh [0:56:47, 0:56:53]: paving the par uh parking lot as part of the alleyway project. You know, the alleyway project is something we've been asking for. [0:56:54, 0:57:05]: as business owners for over three years uh now. You know, we've been complaining about the alleyway for over three years and it it grew into this project. Um but but my concern is [0:57:07, 0:57:27]: It seems thus far that Main Street puts a lot of energy and effort into presenting things to the city and to the council, only to have them knocked down, shut down, slow walked. And if you were to take a picture, and I've asked this board this before, if you were to take a physical picture. [0:57:27, 0:57:30]: of Main Street now. [0:57:30, 0:57:32]: And compare it to Main Street. [0:57:32, 0:57:33]: Four years ago. [0:57:34, 0:57:36]: There's no change. [0:57:37, 0:57:57]: Other than you see a couple of parking signs up and you see more doors closed realistically. And that's that's frustrating and disappointing for me, especially with a city council who who's part of their vision and mission is that they intend for the city of Stockbridge to [0:57:56, 0:58:05]: To function better as a government and as a city than other cities. And they want to be progressive. [0:58:05, 0:58:07]: But I don't see that in their actions. [0:58:08, 0:58:11]: Um and I have several examples, and and I'll start with the amphitheater. [0:58:12, 0:58:15]: Um, now that we're past the grand opening and that excitement. [0:58:15, 0:58:23]: Um, I think it's fair to say, let's take a snapshot of the grand opening. And I know it was hugely successful and that it was a sold-out event. [0:58:23, 0:58:24]: Um [0:58:24, 0:58:25]: But [0:58:26, 0:58:38]: During the whole two years that the amphitheater was being built there, I was asking this board, I was asking the council, I was asking the city manager, what about parking? [0:58:38, 0:58:44]: And I was and and basically even in the main street uh in the downtown association meetings. [0:58:44, 0:58:51]: It you know, it's pretty well hammered at business owners that parking's not a problem. If you have a parking problem, then you have a problem. [0:58:52, 0:58:52]: Um [0:58:53, 0:58:57]: I don't th I don't think that's true for Stockbridge. Um [0:58:57, 0:59:01]: Kira, you know, I started complaining about parking because of the community center. [0:59:01, 0:59:05]: Um and and you even expressed that you know it's just wrong to have a community center. [0:59:05, 0:59:06]: On Main Street. [0:59:07, 0:59:14]: Because you know, that type of event center isn't really fair to the business owners in that whenever there's an event, all the parking disappears. [0:59:16, 0:59:18]: And so the city turns around and opens. [0:59:18, 0:59:21]: A thirty two hundred seat community center. [0:59:22, 0:59:24]: Right on Main Street, right in downtown. [0:59:24, 0:59:31]: And and uses downtown parking spots as part of their calculation for justifying their parking decisions. [0:59:31, 0:59:34]: So mid концерт on the opening night. [0:59:35, 0:59:38]: I walked all the way around downtown. [0:59:38, 0:59:39]: Mid concert. [0:59:39, 0:59:40]: Between Patty [0:59:41, 0:59:42]: And Ms. Steiner Ross. [0:59:44, 0:59:48]: And what I saw coming up East Atlanta Road from my house. [0:59:49, 1:00:00]: was cars parked on sidewalks on both sides of the street, cars parked all over yards and the green space, which tells me there wasn't enough parking. [1:00:01, 1:00:02]: But in addition [1:00:02, 1:00:08]: If the cars are being parked on the sidewalks, how is that fostering a walkable community? [1:00:08, 1:00:11]: In addition, up Bryant Street, the first [1:00:12, 1:00:14]: Res a residential subdivision. [1:00:14, 1:00:18]: Cars were parked on the sidewalks, in yards, on lawns. [1:00:19, 1:00:22]: We have to have a better answer. [1:00:22, 1:00:30]: As I continued up Main Street into downtown, not a single open parking spot was available. [1:00:32, 1:00:32]: And [1:00:32, 1:00:36]: I've been told, well, you close at six. Why does that matter to you? [1:00:36, 1:00:46]: Well, if downtown were but to come were to become more vibrant, I would want to extend my hours to welcome more customers, to be part of that environment. But if there's no parking [1:00:47, 1:00:48]: What's the point? [1:00:50, 1:00:55]: I even reached out to the bar owner. It's the worst Saturday night she's ever had. [1:00:56, 1:00:57]: She had her customers calling her. [1:00:58, 1:01:00]: Saying we can't find parking, we're going to other places. [1:01:01, 1:01:02]: How is that supporting? [1:01:03, 1:01:08]: A a vital business community and an economic development for downtown. [1:01:08, 1:01:13]: How does that present an image of attracting new business in downtown? [1:01:14, 1:01:34]: And that's reflected even more in what I believe is city hall's and the city council's mindset and view of downtown. It's reflected in the continual trash that happens here on Main Street, the continual motorcycles that park on the sidewalk that I've complained about multiple times. [1:01:34, 1:01:37]: Still happens on a weekly basis that doesn't get addressed. [1:01:38, 1:01:38]: It's [1:01:39, 1:01:40]: It's [1:01:41, 1:01:49]: Emphasized on the fact that 114, and I know that bids are out, but the city has owned that building for two and a half years. [1:01:50, 1:01:56]: And still the roof has holes in it falling in. There's plex glass in the front door. It's the most blighted building on the street. [1:01:57, 1:02:03]: So telling me that we've now got bids out for contractors two and a half years down the road doesn't make me feel good. [1:02:04, 1:02:08]: It just tells me that we're slow walking the process of developing. [1:02:08, 1:02:16]: Downtown making it attractive to other businesses. How can we bring business in when we maintain the most blighted building on the street? [1:02:16, 1:02:20]: Well, we don't maintain the most blighted building on the street is more accurate. [1:02:21, 1:02:21]: Um [1:02:22, 1:02:36]: Even in driving around, uh the amphitheater, if you if you if you come up Love Street to turn on the East Atlanta Road now, our state-of-the-art amphitheater is using orange traffic barrels to block the entrance to the park. [1:02:36, 1:02:40]: Is that the image we want to project to every one of our brand new amphitheater? [1:02:40, 1:02:45]: Амі і цій kind of details and this kind of aesthetics and image of downtown. [1:02:45, 1:02:48]: That the council does not take seriously. [1:02:48, 1:02:57]: And so it makes me question as we're forming all these committees about downtown beautification, connectivity, business retention, and [1:02:58, 1:02:59]: Recruitment. [1:03:00, 1:03:15]: The city has has the city signed off on all of this? They attended our joint meeting with the DDA, but has the city adopted our whole mindset and and and program and done a formal resolution to say they're gonna support what these committees bring forth? [1:03:15, 1:03:24]: Or are we just again slow walking and spinning our wheels, buying time for a big developer to come in and buy something so then we don't have to worry about it? [1:03:26, 1:03:27]: That's where I am. [1:03:27, 1:03:29]: And and so it also makes me question [1:03:30, 1:03:34]: Whether I want to continue my efforts, I I I serve on this board as a [1:03:35, 1:03:36]: Business owner in district. [1:03:37, 1:03:49]: for a reason uh that that those seat specifically exist on this board so that this board and presumably the city can get feedback from business owners in district. [1:03:50, 1:03:52]: And I feel like that that feedback has been ignored. [1:03:53, 1:04:00]: For four for three over three years, four years. Um, because the city council has a different vision. [1:04:00, 1:04:04]: And that's reflected in how much of the RSVP has been implemented at this point. [1:04:05, 1:04:08]: So I think this board needs to. [1:04:08, 1:04:12]: Reflect on where we are, what we're accomplishing. [1:04:12, 1:04:17]: And whether the city council really is supporting us or if we're just something [1:04:18, 1:04:22]: There to make the community feel good that yeah, we have a Main Street program. [1:04:22, 1:04:26]: But the s but the council and the city management, city manager. [1:04:26, 1:04:28]: doesn't support whatever we put forward. [1:04:29, 1:04:35]: That's also evident in the fact that we that Kira specifically came up with with the project of [1:04:35, 1:04:45]: uh presenting shipping container options for starting small business or even having little pop-up businesses in downtown as a catalyst. [1:04:45, 1:04:47]: To bring би new business and recruitment. [1:04:47, 1:04:48]: The city council [1:04:49, 1:04:53]: Immediately turned around and banned shipping containers with no explanation. [1:04:55, 1:04:56]: That's where I am. [1:04:57, 1:05:07]: That's where we are. I think we need to really look at that as we move forward and we send people out to sit on these various committees. We need to be thinking in our mind. [1:05:08, 1:05:14]: As we talk about our plans and lay things out, how much of this is supported by the council? Because that's ultimately where it falls. [1:05:15, 1:05:19]: And ultimately, where any success we have will either happen or not. [1:05:20, 1:05:22]: So thank you for the time and [1:05:22, 1:05:24]: Uh I I'd l I'd love to talk through. [1:05:25, 1:05:31]: these with any of you if if you feel the need or or have other questions. [1:05:32, 1:05:32]: But [1:05:33, 1:05:34]: I'll leave it there. [1:05:35, 1:05:36]: Okay. [1:05:38, 1:05:39]: Madam Chair. [1:05:40, 1:05:43]: Yes, sir. Thank you, Mr. Horton. And yes, Mr. Thomas. [1:05:43, 1:05:47]: Uh I'd like to respond to a couple of those things. Uh if I may. [1:05:47, 1:05:56]: Um it was quite a bit, so I'm gonna try to remember. Um I'm gonna start with the latest or the last uh injection about the containers. [1:05:57, 1:05:58]: Um [1:06:01, 1:06:04]: There was an entity I won't call a name. [1:06:04, 1:06:09]: Uh, that is no longer staffer, that is no longer with the city. [1:06:10, 1:06:19]: Uh they were able to and I know Miss Braggs and Lisa, I know y'all know uh about this and and Greg, you probably realize this as well. [1:06:20, 1:06:20]: Um [1:06:22, 1:06:25]: They were successful in stopping that. [1:06:25, 1:06:28]: Uh, because of their own personal [1:06:30, 1:06:43]: I don't don't want to use the word vendetta, but they was able to stop that because of that particular reason. But that person is not here any longer. Uh I will say that the council, the majority of the council at that time. [1:06:44, 1:06:47]: Uh could have gone forward with that with that, but [1:06:48, 1:06:51]: Uh, that staff had some influence over I know two. [1:06:52, 1:06:53]: The third one. [1:06:53, 1:06:55]: was a little closer to [1:06:56, 1:06:57]: Um [1:06:57, 1:07:01]: The owner of the fire station now. [1:07:01, 1:07:04]: So it only takes three council members to to make that decision. [1:07:05, 1:07:06]: So now [1:07:07, 1:07:09]: Responding to some of the other things. [1:07:10, 1:07:13]: the council and being a member of that council. [1:07:13, 1:07:16]: I I I would say that you're probably wrong. [1:07:16, 1:07:18]: When you said that the council [1:07:18, 1:07:22]: Uh, it's not favoring uh the Main Street initiative. [1:07:23, 1:07:27]: Uh one of the internal problems that we and I say that because [1:07:28, 1:07:31]: I just know for a fact that the council's not that that involved. [1:07:32, 1:07:35]: One of the problems that I see as an elected official. [1:07:36, 1:07:37]: uh internally [1:07:38, 1:07:42]: Um and if you're if you watch any of our council meetings or attend [1:07:43, 1:07:49]: You will see, and they and if you can see the emails, uh this council has pushed. [1:07:50, 1:07:52]: Push push initiative. [1:07:52, 1:07:55]: Uh to staff and I know Miss Bragg know too. [1:07:55, 1:07:58]: How how something was a slow walk. [1:07:59, 1:08:01]: And we could not get um [1:08:01, 1:08:02]: staff to move forward. [1:08:03, 1:08:08]: Now, you know, the um it all starts and stop with the city manager. [1:08:08, 1:08:10]: Uh he's not there now. [1:08:10, 1:08:12]: uh procurement [1:08:12, 1:08:15]: Uh it is an ongoing [1:08:15, 1:08:16]: Um [1:08:17, 1:08:20]: struggle right now with procurement. So [1:08:21, 1:08:25]: A lot of things, you know, if you know government, everything sort of channeled through procurement. [1:08:26, 1:08:30]: And we we are having constant battles right now. [1:08:30, 1:08:35]: uh with the way procurement uh operates. So it's not it's not the council. [1:08:36, 1:08:40]: Uh, all you know, the council has to set the policies. [1:08:40, 1:08:41]: And legislate. [1:08:41, 1:08:44]: But then staff has to be able to carry that out. [1:08:45, 1:08:46]: And so [1:08:46, 1:08:50]: I would say if there's a problem, it's a problem in staffing and not council. [1:08:50, 1:08:53]: 'Cause I know that the council's not in that lane. Now I will say [1:08:54, 1:08:56]: You probably do have two council members. [1:08:56, 1:08:59]: uh that is in that lane. But the majority of the council [1:09:00, 1:09:03]: Which is the consensus? No, they're not in that lane. [1:09:03, 1:09:08]: Um, but there's been some issues with procurement the way that [1:09:08, 1:09:17]: Uh they do business and the timeline. So uh we're struggling through that right now. And so that's something I won't get too deep in that, but [1:09:17, 1:09:37]: There are some issues going on with procurement. So a lot of these things have to go through that route and that and that's what some of the breakdown is. Uh the extent that you said something about the barrels, I I I think that just a a a lens. Uh some people may not even look at those barrels. Um, say like you, Mr. Horner. [1:09:37, 1:09:52]: I'cause I had never really thought about it until you just mentioned it. So I would just say, see, the th it's not nothing intentional, I I would say, with the council. I just think it's just the way certain folk look at some things. And I don't think that that never done on anybody about the barrel. [1:09:52, 1:09:55]: Now uh going to the parking [1:09:55, 1:09:58]: Uh you know, we knew. [1:09:58, 1:10:02]: coming in that, you know, Parkham was gonna gonna be somewhat of an issue. [1:10:02, 1:10:04]: So that's why we tried to [1:10:05, 1:10:25]: uh create as much as we could. And that's why I know for a fact that the city has worked with the schools, worked with the uh the subway down the street. Um they're trying to get the church. And after I think the church parked like the Baptist church had everything blocked off, but since that time they came in and asked [1:10:24, 1:10:29]: about the permitting part of it and so the city [1:10:30, 1:10:50]: uh was in favor and allowing all of these entities uh to create the parking. Now I know and Miss Braggs you may have been on that committee, but I know once they did the SWOT analysis, you know, the good and bad and the ugly, about what happened on that first night. And I did hear about the the parking on East Atlanta. [1:10:50, 1:10:55]: So I think we have to do a better job with that. Now we did hire [1:10:55, 1:10:58]: Henry County police to do some things. [1:10:58, 1:11:18]: probably we should have we should we should have hired more. But I will say going forward with the new uh city of Stockbridge Police Department, I think the future is bright uh when it comes to that concern. Uh but you know, we hired Henry County to do certain things. But I would I would agree that that issue on each elevat [1:11:18, 1:11:20]: down the road and the parking and [1:11:20, 1:11:30]: parking on the on the on the grassy area and things like that. Uh that was not permitted. Now uh on M L King um [1:11:30, 1:11:41]: I I know that could be a problem for the for the business owners because the one thing that we have talked about when you talked about the walkability and um businesses. [1:11:42, 1:11:45]: uh being able to capture [1:11:45, 1:11:58]: Um, you know, when we have the uh events at the amphitheater or even at the future of the the cultural arts, uh we want business owners uh on on Burke Street and ML King. [1:11:58, 1:12:00]: to be able to capture that because [1:12:00, 1:12:04]: You have three thousand people in downtown. [1:12:04, 1:12:24]: at the amphitheater and eleven o'clock when it's over, we know that folks were looking for somewhere to go after that. They were not ready to go home, but I do understand that uh there's no parking. And I know, Greg, if you wanted to stin your owls and the uh the pool hall wanted to do something, then you know I know [1:12:24, 1:12:44]: No, their patrons couldn't come in. So, but now that's the issue we got to work on. But I do know that once the uh cultural art facility is open, um, there's gonna be a number, I think it's like 200, 300 parking spaces that's gonna come all the way down to Burke Street from Burke Street. [1:12:44, 1:12:48]: all the way up to the uh cultural facility. So [1:12:48, 1:13:06]: future wise see that's where a lot of the uh overflow well not even necessarily overflow it's just it's just just be parking. I don't foresee the amphitheater and the cultural arts uh having you know competing with activities in the same night. I I don't think so but I don't know. But so [1:13:07, 1:13:14]: The only thing I wanna dispel is is is the comment you made about the council. And I just know the council is is not in that lane. [1:13:15, 1:13:19]: Uh we have pushed and pushed and even even with the alleyway. [1:13:19, 1:13:38]: We we pushed the city manager, and Miss Bragg knows this, uh, we have pushed the city manager at that time uh to move forward and it was just it was just a slow walk. I don't know why, but you know, emails every day. I mean, if you could if you could just see the emails that council members. [1:13:38, 1:13:41]: or was directed in to the city manager. [1:13:42, 1:13:56]: I mean, it was just overflowing just to move things forward. Procurement, we got issues right now with the with the with how the speed that things go through the system. So the only thing I wanna just dispel is that [1:13:57, 1:13:58]: Excuse me. [1:13:59, 1:14:08]: Uh the consensus of the council um is not the only thing that I was disappointed in was the consensus of the council that stopped the containers [1:14:09, 1:14:11]: And that was um [1:14:11, 1:14:14]: And and and Greg, you you know the person who who [1:14:14, 1:14:18]: injected that and uh and made that not happen. [1:14:18, 1:14:23]: Uh but that person is no longer with the city and which is you know, thank God for that. [1:14:23, 1:14:35]: Um but um I just know that the counts is is not in that lane. Um things were just slow. I know Ms. Braggs have tried to push the issue with the alleyway. [1:14:35, 1:14:41]: And and and and and again it went to that same person, but that person is no longer there. So hopefully [1:14:42, 1:14:43]: The new city manager. [1:14:44, 1:14:46]: would come in with a little bit more um [1:14:47, 1:14:51]: a little bit more fire and a little bit more um able to walk a little faster. [1:14:52, 1:14:55]: Uh but I think it was just something that was just built into that person. [1:14:56, 1:14:58]: Things were just slow for whatever reason, but [1:14:58, 1:15:01]: I'll only thing again, only thing I would dispel is no. [1:15:02, 1:15:03]: The council is not [1:15:04, 1:15:11]: No, council's not in that lane. I can't speak for two council members, but I can say that the consensus of the council [1:15:12, 1:15:25]: we are pushing and pushing and pushing and we just ran into a brick wall, uh, and trying to get some of these things to move m move forward. I can't remember everything that you you you you expound on, but the things that I can remember, um [1:15:26, 1:15:28]: I I I you know I c I could I can [1:15:28, 1:15:35]: uh you know respond to that now if you have a question that you want to reiterate i i'll try to speak to that i just can't remember [1:15:35, 1:15:37]: uh everything that you talked about, Mr. Hart. [1:15:39, 1:15:40]: Thank you. [1:15:41, 1:15:43]: So much both of you. Um [1:15:44, 1:15:45]: For your [1:15:46, 1:15:50]: Oh I'm sorry. Additional, I'm sorry. Yeah. Please do. Um [1:15:50, 1:15:57]: it as far as parking, that was really the the only thing that I could at least think of something something that came to mind. Um [1:15:57, 1:15:58]: Hearing [1:15:59, 1:16:10]: you know, expansion for like, you know, other and other parking lots going out. Um, just something we've experienced even um in the bakery when we are short on space and we can't go out, we go up. [1:16:10, 1:16:16]: So I don't know how feasible it is or if it will be, you know, reasonable or within a budget to build a parking deck. [1:16:17, 1:16:21]: There. Um I've heard thirty two hundred seats or something uh mentioned. [1:16:22, 1:16:27]: I'm not sure how many parking spaces are there now, but if a um parking deck [1:16:27, 1:16:33]: Could allow you know, that would just allow for multiple levels in the same space for not having to deal with other businesses. [1:16:34, 1:16:36]: I'm the only one in this conversation. [1:16:36, 1:16:39]: Well I I there has been [1:16:39, 1:16:44]: That that issue of a parking that has been uh in discussion [1:16:44, 1:16:59]: It's not completely off the table. Uh, but one of the things when you you mentioned finance is yes, um a parking deck is is very, very, very expensive, but it's not completely uh off the table. [1:16:59, 1:17:15]: uh for future consideration but we just know that uh right now twenty twenty one twenty twenty two twenty twenty three uh it's not gonna be possible because you know one thing you know um [1:17:15, 1:17:18]: Creating a police department. [1:17:18, 1:17:24]: Excuse me. Um been out on the campaign trail and it's, you know, sort of taking effect on me. But [1:17:25, 1:17:25]: Um [1:17:26, 1:17:30]: With the police department coming forward, see a lot of problems. [1:17:30, 1:17:33]: for enforcement, enforcing [1:17:34, 1:17:46]: Uh and that's one of the things that I've talked about, enforcing uh ordinances that we have passed. See, that's been one of the problems because Henry County would not enforce those. [1:17:46, 1:18:00]: With your own City of Stockbridge Police Department, see many of those things will be able to be enforced. So that's one of the reasons I've advocated for the creation of the City of Stockbridge Police Department. So [1:18:01, 1:18:21]: You will see a difference in uh some of those things and and and as well in in code enforcement. We did hire a supervisor and they all started getting up, but we still have complaints. We're complaining right now. I mean the council, we're complaining right now about some code enforcement issues because we are out there. [1:18:21, 1:18:26]: And we see this. Uh one criticism that I have with staffing [1:18:27, 1:18:33]: They don't live here in the city of Stockbridge and they don't go out. They don't ride out to sea. [1:18:33, 1:18:47]: uh public works director, the city manager, um, you know, community development director. We encourage, we push, we're demanding that staffers get out here in the city and see. [1:18:48, 1:18:57]: We are constantly, constantly reporting things back. And we should not have when I say report, I'm talking about council members. [1:18:57, 1:19:08]: We are flooding the city with things that we see in the community and that should not be. So I'm just saying to to this board, um, it's not the council. [1:19:09, 1:19:14]: Um we are pushing uh staffers and I say this all the time. [1:19:14, 1:19:19]: And when we pay staffers and we pay them handsomely. [1:19:20, 1:19:24]: So we expect more uh at our last council meeting. [1:19:24, 1:19:44]: uh we push back on two departments they got a little upset because we're pushing but we telling folks it's a new day uh in stockbridge and when we hire staffers we expect them to do the job we set the the council set the policies but we expect staff to carry those out [1:19:44, 1:19:53]: And I know y'all don't get a chance to see that and I know you don't see the results, but if you could see the emails, if if you could be uh internally. [1:19:54, 1:19:56]: And see where we are pushing. [1:19:56, 1:20:01]: then you would not have that opinion about counsel. Now I again [1:20:01, 1:20:04]: Um, you know, the consensus of the council. [1:20:04, 1:20:24]: It's not 100%, but they are in the minority. And I'll just put a plug in right now. That's why elections are so important. And it is important who sits on that city council in order to push. And Mr. Horton, I know you and I have had many conversations. So you know where I stand. You know who I am. [1:20:24, 1:20:33]: And so we push and push and and it pushes so hard. Sometimes folks resign and they they go other places if you if you catch my drift. [1:20:34, 1:20:35]: So but I'm just saying [1:20:35, 1:20:37]: This counts as pushing. [1:20:37, 1:20:40]: And we are re hiring we are we are demanding. [1:20:40, 1:20:42]: Higher standards from staffers. [1:20:43, 1:20:44]: People that we hire to come in. [1:20:45, 1:20:48]: But one thing and you know, Mr. Harding, it was some opposition. [1:20:48, 1:21:08]: to uh creating the City of Stockbridge Police Department. But we understand when it comes to uh patrolling and but mainly for for for this board uh uh information enforcing the ordinances that we pass, parking in the street and things like you just mentioned, uh all that on East Atlanta Road from the concert. [1:21:08, 1:21:11]: certain night. So a lot of these things will change. [1:21:11, 1:21:15]: But uh and I know, you know, you mentioned three years, four years. [1:21:15, 1:21:17]: Um, you know, I I [1:21:17, 1:21:21]: grew up here so I've seen some changes and it they've been slow changes. [1:21:22, 1:21:23]: Uh but I'm I feel [1:21:24, 1:21:26]: confident and I'm excited about the future. [1:21:27, 1:21:29]: And and that's what we are doing now. We are pushing. [1:21:30, 1:21:32]: I was saying now this will be my last comment. [1:21:32, 1:21:34]: Yes, there are some staffers. [1:21:35, 1:21:36]: That that uh you know [1:21:37, 1:21:38]: The they they have been wounded. [1:21:38, 1:21:40]: Their feelings have been hurt. [1:21:41, 1:21:42]: But when you accept a job. [1:21:43, 1:21:45]: And you're getting paid handsomely. [1:21:45, 1:21:47]: You know, all of that goes out of the door. [1:21:48, 1:21:50]: So we are demanding higher standards. [1:21:51, 1:22:01]: And but we're we we're holding folks accountable. Just do your job. When you're hired to do a job, we expect you to do it. But I know you all don't get a chance to hear or see some of that, but [1:22:01, 1:22:03]: The majority of this council. [1:22:03, 1:22:04]: Push it. [1:22:04, 1:22:17]: We pushed and pushed and pushed about this alleyway. And and the excuses were not acceptable. And so that that's sort of where we are right now. But uh we pushed for years on that. Cause you know, Greg, it's been on the books for the longest. [1:22:18, 1:22:19]: But we pushed every day. [1:22:22, 1:22:23]: Well [1:22:24, 1:22:28]: That was a very intense conversation and a needed conversation. [1:22:29, 1:22:35]: um for the sake of time for this meeting i do want to allow us to close out um [1:22:35, 1:22:55]: Mr. Thomas, we greatly appreciate your input. Um we have, as a board, pretty much the same vantage as Greg, and we can only see what's tangible. We can't see the day-to-day, but we appreciate you letting us know that that the fight is there and that you're doing everything you can at this time to get all [1:22:55, 1:23:15]: to um have some um outward expression of what's happening. Um so totally understand both perspectives. This board is here for a reason and we do need to assess what we're doing, why we're doing it, and are we just spinning our wheels? Um Madam Chair, Madam Chair, if I may [1:23:15, 1:23:24]: Any board member could call me at any time and Greg and I, you know, we talk often, but anyone can call me if they really want the um [1:23:24, 1:23:28]: The X rated version of that, uh, feel free to give me a call. [1:23:29, 1:23:32]: Thank you so much for putting that out there for us. We appreciate that. [1:23:32, 1:23:45]: Um, and we're very thankful you're on this board and that you do allow us to have um somewhat of a peek in um to how things are moving so that we can share that with the community as well so they know that things are moving. [1:23:45, 1:23:46]: Um [1:23:47, 1:23:49]: Miss Briggs, anything additional? [1:23:50, 1:23:53]: Um, I was going to say that um the points about the parking. [1:23:54, 1:23:58]: Um, in the yards and on the sidewalk that was brought to [1:23:58, 1:24:01]: the attention of the um [1:24:02, 1:24:08]: Um, c amphitheater committee that was working on the parking plan. Again, this was the first time. [1:24:08, 1:24:10]: that it happened because we actually had [1:24:11, 1:24:14]: A lot that was available for parking um the subway. [1:24:15, 1:24:18]: Sherman Williams, that shopping complex area. [1:24:18, 1:24:19]: That was almost [1:24:20, 1:24:22]: empty, it w it was not filled at all. [1:24:22, 1:24:25]: With regard to spaces so [1:24:25, 1:24:29]: I think that the management of the parking and directing people to [1:24:29, 1:24:30]: Parking. [1:24:30, 1:24:32]: Areas. Um we [1:24:32, 1:24:34]: Рекомендація some work be done. [1:24:35, 1:24:36]: And um public information. [1:24:37, 1:24:43]: um be put out there that that lot is available for people to park. It wasn't empty. There were people parking there. [1:24:44, 1:24:44]: But [1:24:45, 1:24:49]: Um, some of those people who had parked on the sidewalks and that sort of thing. [1:24:49, 1:24:54]: Um could have been directed there and should not have been allowed to park. [1:24:55, 1:25:00]: on the sidewalks, especially on East Atlanta Road, where we had a police presence. [1:25:01, 1:25:02]: And um [1:25:02, 1:25:10]: They could have said, you know, move those cars along instead of allowing them to park on the grass and to park on the sidewalks. [1:25:10, 1:25:14]: So that was a concern that was um put forward to. [1:25:15, 1:25:19]: Um, the police who were managing traffic at that time, but [1:25:20, 1:25:27]: We did get the response that they were there to move cars in and out of part of the parking area, ingress and egress. [1:25:27, 1:25:32]: They were not responsible for telling people where to park and telling them where not to park. [1:25:32, 1:25:36]: So that was something that is gonna have to be addressed. [1:25:36, 1:25:41]: Going forward with the next concert and future concerts as well that [1:25:41, 1:25:45]: They cannot allow people to park there. I don't know if those cars can be ticketed. [1:25:46, 1:25:54]: Um, you know, or at least g receive some sort of warning so that they will not do that again. It's basically people don't want to walk and that's [1:25:54, 1:26:00]: Um unfortunate because every other amphitheater, whether it's Chastain or you know, wherever else. [1:26:00, 1:26:06]: People have to park walk to the amphitheater from their um designated parking areas and [1:26:06, 1:26:08]: That was just people wanting to. [1:26:08, 1:26:09]: Be able to [1:26:09, 1:26:14]: just walk a few steps to the amphitheater and they were not prevented from doing so. [1:26:15, 1:26:18]: As far as the um downtown area is concerned. [1:26:19, 1:26:24]: Um we are going to have to look at that and possibly have someone post it. [1:26:25, 1:26:28]: In that area to make sure that [1:26:29, 1:26:35]: concert goers are not parking in those spaces. I don't know how to police that. That's something we're gonna have to talk about. [1:26:36, 1:26:38]: in another meeting, I guess, or offline. [1:26:39, 1:26:41]: to get some ideas on how to manage that because [1:26:41, 1:26:43]: That's the that's the com [1:26:43, 1:26:48]: That is the conversation that all of these cities are having that have amphitheaters. [1:26:48, 1:26:52]: Um that the downtown gets inundated during the um [1:26:53, 1:26:55]: During concerts and special events. [1:26:55, 1:26:59]: parking in front of the businesses. So we're not the only ones that are [1:26:59, 1:27:00]: having that [1:27:01, 1:27:03]: That dilemma and having to deal with [1:27:03, 1:27:06]: those issues. So these are things that [1:27:06, 1:27:08]: Are gonna have to be figured out. [1:27:09, 1:27:13]: Um, I don't know the answers. Perhaps we can talk to other Main Street programs. [1:27:14, 1:27:16]: Who work with these types of situations? [1:27:16, 1:27:20]: Um and that's all I'm gonna say right now'cause I I know we're going [1:27:20, 1:27:23]: very long and I want to be able to dismiss everyone. [1:27:24, 1:27:26]: Um, so that you all can go on about your day, but [1:27:27, 1:27:30]: If it's something that you would like to help us work on. [1:27:30, 1:27:35]: Um and be a part of that conversation and a part of those bringing those ideas forward. [1:27:36, 1:27:38]: Two um parking control. [1:27:38, 1:27:45]: And um ingress and egress, please let me know because we need fresh ideas and we need a lot of um [1:27:46, 1:27:52]: Eyes, ears, and brains on this one because it's not an easy answer and we're not the only ones that are having to deal with it. [1:27:56, 1:28:09]: Thank you so much, Ms. Braggs. Um my phone is literally about to um lose power, so I had to turn off my video. Sorry about that. Um so at this time we would like to um have a motion to adjourn our uh October meeting. [1:28:10, 1:28:12]: Uh at uh [1:28:12, 1:28:13]: Let's see. [1:28:14, 1:28:15]: Ten thirty four AM. [1:28:15, 1:28:16]: Do we have a motion? [1:28:17, 1:28:20]: Madam Chair, I move we adjourn at 10 34 A.M. [1:28:21, 1:28:35]: Thank you, Mr. Hopkins. Thank you, Mr. Firch. We will take a roll call really quick to acknowledge everyone's vote on this ending of our meeting. Thank you all for your time today and for the wonderful conversation and input. [1:28:36, 1:28:40]: I believe Ms. Camacho has left the meeting, but I will still call it her name, Ms. Camacho. [1:28:42, 1:28:43]: We'll put her as an abstention. [1:28:44, 1:28:45]: Thank you. [1:28:45, 1:28:46]: Miss Finley. [1:28:47, 1:28:47]: Yes. [1:28:48, 1:28:50]: Thank you. Mr. Firch. [1:28:50, 1:28:51]: Yes. [1:28:52, 1:28:53]: Thank you, Miss Gibson. [1:28:55, 1:29:00]: Yeah, I think she may oh she's present. Thank you. Uh Mr. Hopkins. [1:29:00, 1:29:00]: Yes. [1:29:01, 1:29:02]: Mr. Hutton. [1:29:04, 1:29:05]: Yes. [1:29:05, 1:29:07]: Thank you, Jones. [1:29:08, 1:29:09]: We have departed as well. [1:29:10, 1:29:13]: Okay, upstairs. No, she's waving her hand. [1:29:14, 1:29:17]: Okay, that's a yes. Miss Potts, yes, Miss Reed. [1:29:18, 1:29:19]: Yes. [1:29:19, 1:29:21]: And Mr. Thomas. [1:29:22, 1:29:25]: Mr. Harden, give uh councilman Thomas a call and I say yes. [1:29:26, 1:29:36]: Thank you, sir. Um, all those that um need to depart from this meeting, please do. Thank you so much for your time. Have a great rest of the uh weekend and we will see you soon. [1:29:37, 1:29:43]: Um, and I'll say that we will bring up um the parking in our um downtown connectivity meeting. [1:29:44, 1:29:48]: Um, because I think that that would be the best um group to [1:29:48, 1:29:51]: Just kind of brainstorm and think about this parking issue. [1:29:52, 1:29:56]: And um we'll address some of the other things that um Mr. Horton. [1:29:56, 1:29:58]: Has brought um to the table. [1:29:58, 1:30:06]: Um, through the our committee system and um with this board because we do want to make sure that we are staying on the [1:30:07, 1:30:09]: Absolutely. Mr. Horton, you had something? [1:30:11, 1:30:20]: Um just uh Kira, uh if if we're gonna bring that up with the uh connectivity committee, can we uh get the new police chief's involvement in that? [1:30:21, 1:30:24]: Yes, I can ask him to be a part of the discussion. [1:30:27, 1:30:30]: Thank you for the thank you for the suggestion. [1:30:32, 1:30:32]: Thank you. [1:30:33, 1:30:34]: All right. [1:30:34, 1:30:38]: All right guys, we just gotta stay we gotta stay the the on this path. It's hard. [1:30:38, 1:30:49]: It's very hard, but we are slowly making some progress and we need to definitely keep our grind going and keep everyone accountable and stay connected. [1:30:49, 1:31:01]: Have a fantastic day. Thank you all. Thank you. And hello to all my little visitors. I see my little Nova and my little shamari. Yay. [1:31:02, 1:31:05]: Fantastic. [1:31:06, 1:31:11]: Little Shamari has just been quiet. Yeah, he's very concerned. [1:31:12, 1:31:18]: Bye everyone, everybody. Bye. Have a good one. [1:31:21, 1:31:21]: Mm. [1:31:22, 1:31:29]: Okay, I will try not to keep everyone long since we went over a little bit um with our other conversation. Um [1:31:30, 1:31:31]: I do think it was [1:31:31, 1:31:34]: good conversation and necessary, but we'll [1:31:34, 1:31:36]: Не то ревизит that at a different point. [1:31:36, 1:31:40]: Um, as far as small business Saturday, um [1:31:40, 1:31:45]: You heard the um ideas we have and now that we are [1:31:45, 1:31:49]: at November's door we have to move quite a bit more quickly. [1:31:50, 1:31:54]: Um, so I was hoping to get some feedback on um [1:31:55, 1:31:57]: Вот ви впут форд софа. [1:31:57, 1:31:59]: Um as ideas and [1:31:59, 1:32:04]: find out what you think of it and what suggestions you have that I can begin um [1:32:05, 1:32:10]: considering and maybe implementing as we get closer to the last week of October. [1:32:11, 1:32:12]: Anybody. [1:32:15, 1:32:18]: Wait, let me understand your question, say it again. I'm sorry. [1:32:19, 1:32:20]: Yes, I'm sorry. [1:32:20, 1:32:23]: So I I gave a recap um earlier. [1:32:23, 1:32:26]: of what we hope to do for [1:32:26, 1:32:27]: Um [1:32:27, 1:32:30]: Shop small season, I'm calling it. [1:32:30, 1:32:34]: Um, for twenty twenty one rather than just making it um small business Saturday. [1:32:35, 1:32:39]: And you know, we described that um Kira and I will choose. [1:32:39, 1:32:40]: A few um [1:32:41, 1:32:43]: Locations around the city that [1:32:44, 1:32:47]: seem to have good foot traffic um at their plazas. [1:32:48, 1:32:50]: Um and just pop up there. [1:32:50, 1:32:55]: To encourage the community to continue to shop throughout the month of November as opposed to [1:32:55, 1:32:57]: Only on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. [1:32:58, 1:33:00]: Um and also that we would [1:33:00, 1:33:03]: Go ahead and implement a new batch of um [1:33:05, 1:33:09]: s videos, particular business videos. Um [1:33:09, 1:33:16]: And I I think that's kind of it. You know, the fact that we'll promote it for the entire month of November as opposed to a single day. [1:33:16, 1:33:16]: And [1:33:17, 1:33:17]: Um [1:33:18, 1:33:22]: The fact that we will go around the city encouraging and showing up. [1:33:23, 1:33:26]: You know, to remind everyone what we're looking forward to. [1:33:26, 1:33:28]: I just need more um [1:33:28, 1:33:29]: Feedback. [1:33:29, 1:33:32]: From our merchants as to um [1:33:33, 1:33:35]: their particular um [1:33:35, 1:33:36]: perspectives. [1:33:36, 1:33:38]: From their business's angle. [1:33:39, 1:33:40]: What do you think and what can we do? [1:33:41, 1:33:41]: So [1:33:42, 1:33:43]: improve this idea. [1:33:44, 1:33:50]: Well, I'm thinking that we definitely need to do a pop-up in the um food depot parking lot. [1:33:51, 1:33:53]: I think that that would be a good location to [1:33:54, 1:33:55]: Just have [1:33:55, 1:33:57]: Our table, our kiosk. [1:33:57, 1:34:00]: Giving people information about the um [1:34:01, 1:34:07]: support of our small businesses during the month of November and then especially on small business Saturday. [1:34:08, 1:34:12]: Um I know that because that's a downtown location, um I [1:34:12, 1:34:15]: Really like that particular location. [1:34:15, 1:34:18]: And they are very busy, you know, all through the day. [1:34:18, 1:34:19]: Um [1:34:21, 1:34:26]: Because we are somewhat shorter on time than I had anticipated we would be. [1:34:27, 1:34:27]: Um [1:34:28, 1:34:32]: I don't think there we'll be able to do quite as many pop-ups. Um [1:34:32, 1:34:34]: I'm thinking two to three. [1:34:35, 1:34:36]: For this season. [1:34:36, 1:34:38]: Um, so I'm [1:34:38, 1:34:46]: willing to hear about any other locations that I mean the the area where prayer is located is pretty busy. [1:34:47, 1:34:48]: Um [1:34:48, 1:34:52]: So that might be a good location since we have a a business that is [1:34:52, 1:34:56]: participating in our effort to, you know, get the word out there. [1:34:57, 1:34:58]: Um [1:34:58, 1:35:02]: Are there any other recommendations for doing a pop-up? [1:35:04, 1:35:08]: Could you clarify? What area is prayers? Um I'm sorry I'm [1:35:08, 1:35:11]: Prayer is located on um [1:35:12, 1:35:16]: Um North Henry Boulevard by the churches chicken and [1:35:16, 1:35:17]: Um [1:35:17, 1:35:20]: What else is in that player as a [1:35:20, 1:35:27]: There's a beauty supply. [1:35:28, 1:35:29]: A beauty supply, yeah. [1:35:30, 1:35:31]: Um, so that's [1:35:31, 1:35:36]: A a possible location. There's also a location on Walt Stevens Boulevard. [1:35:37, 1:35:40]: Um and we're and again, we're trying to be where [1:35:40, 1:35:47]: There are also small business owners. We don't necessarily want to be at the Walmart parking lot because that's a big box. We'd rather be [1:35:47, 1:35:49]: in an area that [1:35:49, 1:35:52]: А смал бизнес [1:35:52, 1:35:54]: that we would like to [1:35:54, 1:36:08]: um promote and also get people interested in supporting small businesses. Well yeah our plaza is full of small businesses. What what just would you clarify the pop-up like what what is the pop-up for um [1:36:09, 1:36:15]: As opposed to the kind of pop-up where you know merchants come out with their different wares. [1:36:15, 1:36:20]: Um we're not trying to do that because we don't have time to recruit or manage anything like that. [1:36:21, 1:36:21]: However [1:36:22, 1:36:25]: Um, if it's a plaza that's already pretty busy. [1:36:25, 1:36:31]: I think a sidewalk sale would be good. So for instance, if you guys wanted to while we were there that day. [1:36:32, 1:36:34]: Путайл від сам. [1:36:35, 1:36:39]: Cupcake samples or maybe one dollar cupcakes or something like that. Something that's [1:36:40, 1:36:41]: A little um [1:36:41, 1:36:42]: Okay. [1:36:42, 1:36:52]: smaller and quicker than what you normally do, which would encourage people who might not have come in before to come in again in the future. [1:36:52, 1:37:07]: And the same for some of the other um areas. I think I wanted to ask the city if we can allow pop-ups throughout the month of November, meaning that any store that's got a brick and mortar, if they wanted to put a table and a tent out front. [1:37:08, 1:37:09]: provided their space. [1:37:10, 1:37:18]: uh maybe a rack of clothes or something like that. Just something not to take up all the space but to encourage people to see their wares and to [1:37:19, 1:37:26]: Come along to the sidewalk there. Um, as for Kira and I, we will bring an umbrella and a table. [1:37:26, 1:37:31]: and some of the tote bags that we give out each year and the passports. [1:37:31, 1:37:38]: And remind people throughout you know, go ahead throughout the month of November to honor those passports and [1:37:38, 1:37:42]: Um, shop at the participating stores and anyone else. [1:37:42, 1:37:45]: that's in their uh plaza or community. [1:37:47, 1:37:52]: And that's the big thing. We've got to get the the passport together. We don't know who is [1:37:53, 1:37:59]: uh participating right now. So uh Greg has always done the passport for us. [1:37:59, 1:38:01]: So we need to get those businesses to him. [1:38:02, 1:38:08]: He he's gotten some commitments, um, and some folks have contacted me saying they would be interested. [1:38:08, 1:38:09]: Um [1:38:10, 1:38:25]: So of course we need more. We would like to get as many as we can, but one of the issues, and this might be a question for Vanessa, one of the issues has been that there are um businesses asking to participate that in my opinion. [1:38:25, 1:38:26]: Or not. [1:38:27, 1:38:34]: good retail. You know what I mean? They're more service oriented. And um like us you know in the [1:38:35, 1:38:35]: I'm sorry. [1:38:37, 1:38:52]: I thought I heard that. She said like us. She's service oriented. Yeah. Well, and that that's a question because in the past we've had other dance studios that um participated. And my question was, are they open on the Saturday after Thanksgiving? And is it relevant? [1:38:53, 1:38:55]: Two small business Saturday. [1:38:55, 1:38:56]: Um [1:38:56, 1:39:00]: as it was designed in the past. Now we're trying to do something a little bit different this time. [1:39:01, 1:39:05]: Um which might open up room for some of those service businesses. [1:39:05, 1:39:08]: But I wanted to get your perspective on whether or not [1:39:08, 1:39:09]: Um [1:39:09, 1:39:13]: We should even try to include certain types of businesses. [1:39:18, 1:39:23]: Well, I mean, I guess it ju I mean, most of us are are closed during that. [1:39:23, 1:39:27]: Um that that week, that um that Saturday. [1:39:27, 1:39:35]: Most of us. Um, I can't speak for I mean, I know the majority of the ones that I know are closed. [1:39:35, 1:39:36]: Um [1:39:39, 1:39:42]: It's just kinda hard because it just depends on what, you know. [1:39:42, 1:39:48]: w you know,'cause I know I've always wanted to participate, but I've never understood how I mean not understood but [1:39:48, 1:39:51]: I didn't know what we could do. [1:39:52, 1:39:53]: To [1:39:53, 1:39:57]: participate on that particular weekend because one is hard to get. [1:39:58, 1:40:00]: people to wanna come out. [1:40:00, 1:40:03]: For us, you know, my my people. [1:40:03, 1:40:03]: Um [1:40:04, 1:40:08]: to assist and help the you know, that partic that particular weekend. [1:40:08, 1:40:10]: Um, but [1:40:11, 1:40:23]: Um also, you know, just looking at you know what we could provide other than maybe classes or something like that and what people be interested in coming in to do. [1:40:24, 1:40:27]: pop up little classes like that. [1:40:28, 1:40:37]: So I I agree with that. Um my impression was that most holidaygoers are not interested in [1:40:37, 1:40:41]: Um participating in that type of activity on [1:40:41, 1:40:42]: Those weekends. [1:40:43, 1:40:47]: But um so for instance last year there was a fitness center. [1:40:47, 1:40:52]: And what I try to encourage them was um you know just [1:40:53, 1:40:56]: continue to promote yourselves because right [1:40:56, 1:40:58]: During the holidays, people purchase. [1:40:59, 1:41:00]: Memberships. [1:41:00, 1:41:00]: To [1:41:01, 1:41:08]: you know, lose pounds after the holidays or it's a gift for someone else they know would like to get started for a New Year's resolution. [1:41:08, 1:41:19]: Um, I think in that way it's good participation, but I think in other ways, you know, these businesses were just trying to get some exposure, but it's kind of [1:41:19, 1:41:23]: Taking up space from the retailers that we're trying to um [1:41:24, 1:41:30]: actually have people work with during that season. So that that's kind of a tough one. And we need to figure out [1:41:31, 1:41:32]: Whether or not or how. [1:41:33, 1:41:34]: We think this can work. [1:41:35, 1:41:37]: Greg's Greg, you trying to raise your hand? [1:41:38, 1:41:38]: Yeah. [1:41:39, 1:41:58]: Yeah, if if and since we're talking about doing a shop small season instead of a shop small Saturday, um, you know, maybe it's okay to drop the requirement that a location actually be open on shop small Saturday. And and I think that's all in how we sell it and possi possibly how we sell it during the pop-ups. [1:41:58, 1:42:03]: But you know, maybe we could even design the passport in a manner that that clearly [1:42:03, 1:42:23]: defines these businesses are actually open on shop small saturday these other businesses are participating in shop small season get your stamps from these during the month of November um but these will be available on shop small saturday as well so maybe it's up yeah maybe it's like a star or something on the ones that [1:42:23, 1:42:25]: That it will be open on Saturday. [1:42:26, 1:42:35]: Yeah. I like that idea. Some some little indicator saying this one is actually open on Shop Small Saturday. The rest of them are participating in Shop Small season. [1:42:36, 1:42:37]: Yeah. Yes. [1:42:38, 1:42:38]: Yes. [1:42:39, 1:42:41]: I like that. I like that Greg. [1:42:41, 1:42:51]: I like that. And um so Kira had Kira and I talked about that a little bit also. And we s you know, we normally give um a winning gif gift basket for the name that's drawn. [1:42:51, 1:42:53]: Um people who've [1:42:53, 1:42:55]: Shopped at at least four locations. [1:42:55, 1:43:06]: Um, and they have proof of that. So we can also do something that says if you've actually shopped on that Saturday and have proof of that, then you get into a second type of drawing. [1:43:06, 1:43:09]: Um or some kind of indicator for those people. [1:43:09, 1:43:18]: Who um actually went out on that Saturday. So I'm glad to get that um that kind of feedback. I think that's useful. [1:43:19, 1:43:30]: Well, um we'll continue the conversation. Um on Monday, we'll schedule a meeting for everyone, a lunchtime meeting. We actually have an economic development meeting. I didn't realize that starts. [1:43:30, 1:43:31]: At eleven thirty. [1:43:32, 1:43:38]: So we wouldn't be able to start. Can we start at twelve thirty as opposed to twelve? I know twelve is what I said, but [1:43:38, 1:43:40]: Is twelve thirty okay with you all? [1:43:41, 1:43:42]: On Monday. [1:43:45, 1:43:58]: That's fun. So fun. Okay. All right. So we'll shift it 30 minutes. So Lisa and I won't have to um leave the um economic development meeting. We'll go straight into small business Saturday on Monday. I'll send you all um [1:43:59, 1:44:02]: A Zoom meeting invitation in a few minutes. [1:44:04, 1:44:14]: All right, thank you. That gives us a little bit more direction for us to get started. Um, well, we've started, but to continue. And um Greg, did you think Greg was gonna say one more thing? [1:44:15, 1:44:27]: Yeah, Kira, if uh I'm sorry, Lisa, if if you could send me the uh names that have that you have talked with and agreed to participate so far, I'll try to have a mock-up of the passport ready for Monday. [1:44:28, 1:44:38]: Okay. Okay. Um so Greg, I am, as you can see, not at the office today and that list is at my desk. So I'll I'll send myself a note to send it to you first thing Monday. [1:44:39, 1:44:39]: Oh. [1:44:40, 1:44:40]: Oh. [1:44:42, 1:44:43]: Okay. Yeah, that'll work. [1:44:43, 1:44:44]: Okay, thank you. [1:44:46, 1:44:46]: All right. [1:44:48, 1:44:50]: All right, thank you. And we'll um [1:44:51, 1:44:54]: Be talking with you again on Monday. Thank you so much. [1:44:54, 1:45:01]: And thanks for your patience and hanging in with us a little longer. Yeah, thanks everybody. All right. Bye-bye. [1:45:11, 1:45:13]: Should we log out and log back in? [1:45:13, 1:45:15]: Wait a minute, I've got a [1:45:16, 1:45:18]: Lynn there's one of Linda's things still open. [1:45:19, 1:45:20]: I'm trying to um [1:45:21, 1:45:22]: And you're still recording. [1:45:22, 1:45:24]: Yeah, that's what I was trying to pause.
